Meet the Artist

Hello, my name is Michelle Sillimon, and I am a Fiber Artist.

Creating art, exploring various techniques and styles, and teaching others how to break free and unleash their creative soul brings me immense joy.

My journey into quilting began in June 2020, as a way to cope with the changes brought about by the onset of Covid. I started with a precut quilt kit that I purchased online. After piecing together the quilt top, I set it aside for over a year before revisiting it.

In August 2021, I gathered the courage to complete what I had started. I retrieved the quilt top from where it had been stashed away and decided it was time to finish my first quilt. Using a simple zigzag stitch on my stepmother's sewing machine, I quilted over every seam. It was basic, but complete—I had not only pieced but also quilted my own quilt.

I had no idea that this seemingly random purchase would be the beginning of an incredible journey.

Since completing my first quilt in 2021, I have had the honor of displaying my work in numerous African American Fiber Art Exhibitions in North Charleston, SC and Galveston, TX. Sharing my knowledge with others is a true passion of mine, and I have conducted several classes for fellow quilters.

As I continue on my artistic path, I look forward to expanding my knowledge, honing my skills, and pushing myself to continue to grow. I aim to provide the same support and encouragement to anyone looking to embrace their creative soul.
